The Polish Cultural Institute New York is seeking a skilled designer for a contract assignment.
The project involves design and production of the Institute’s 40-page program brochure, published twice yearly; the publication is to be produced from graphic and editorial materials provided by the PCI.
The design is to be submitted in the form of electronic files (InDesign layout, with fonts and art attached, and a press-ready PDF file, prepared to our printer’s specifications).
Designer is expected to cooperate closely with the PCI’s staff on all aspects of production until successful completion of the project.
The work can be performed offsite, but the right candidate should be willing and able to appear at the PCI office for consultation at least once per week during the period when the project is in development and to be available at other times for e-mail or phone contact during office hours.
This is a one-time assignment, possibly leading to more work for the right candidate.
Demonstrated skills in quality print design, sense of modern aesthetics and willingness to meet the client’s needs are of paramount importance. Knowledge of Polish culture and language is a big plus.
Requirements – please be:
• local to NYC;
• legally employable in the USA;
• able to present a digital portfolio of works (available as a Web site or PDF file), showing at least 2 years experience in hands-on print design and production and strong design skills in producing quality print materials, particularly for culture-related clients;
• able to demonstrate excellent visual, written and verbal communications skills (ideally bilingual Polish and English);
• proficient in all necessary print design programs (Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Professional) and familiar with basic prepress standards;
• able to work closely with a team, accommodate requests from team members, and assimilate input from multiple sources;
• extremely reliable, punctual, mature and trustworthy with strong work ethic
